Below are posted the prompts for the upcoming week of November 9th – 13th. It looks like we have a Friday the 13th coming up. I wonder how that will affect the writing? I suppose we shall see.
The prompts are posted below without my writing attached. Mostly because I haven’t done any writing on them yet. Plus sometimes it is helpful to see the prompts without seeing where someone else took them so you can just see what your mind creates without being influenced. Each morning I set a timer for fifteen minutes, use the prompt as my first sentence and don’t stop writing until the timer dings.
The point is to let your brain wake up but to leave your inner editor asleep. There is no wrong way to use the prompts. I’ve put them in the order I plan to do them and I plan for five in the week but you can ignore the order I’ve put them in and do as many or as few as you like.
The trick is to remember that in those fifteen minutes you are free to write the worst drivel that has ever been written down. You have been granted permission. If you come up with something fabulous, that’s fine too. The point is to just write and see what comes out.
Sometimes it can be used later, other times it must be doused in rare oils and ungents set alight and sacrificed in apology to the gods of literature. Just remember, even if it is horrid claptrap, you’ve at least managed to clear dross from your brain before you start your actual writing. Sort of like clearing your throat before making an important announcement.

And now that I have posted them, I am going to forget all about them until next week so that I don’t give them more thought than they deserve. Happy Friday everyone.
