Welcome to Tuesday! I am feeling good about today. I woke up with ideas in my head and I know exactly what to write today. well for my regular writing anyway, I haven’t thought about the prompt yet. I have been kind of upset with my regular writing lately I was almost done with a manuscript and then a computer foul up ate half of it. I’m certain it was my fault somehow but regardless of blame I am having to rewrite a novel I was almost finished with. Not fun. so as a reminder to all – Back up your work.
But I am feeling better now and edging into the section that I hadn’t written before the crash. Hence my better mood. But first there is the morning prompt. So Timer set and fifteen minutes to go. Let’s hit it.
Okay no clue where that came from. I don’t think I even know anyone who wears gel nails. But at least I envision a murder at the end of it so that’s something in more familiar territory for my writing.
Tuesday, November 17th: That sounds exactly like what we need right now.
“That sounds like exactly what we need right now,’ Kelsey said. “Something fun and uncomplicated.
On the other side of the screen, her best friend Andi looked at her incredulously. “You are joking right?”
She tapped the computer screen and her image blurred into the shape of a finger as the camera lens adjusted focus. Kelsey could see that her finger nail polish was chipped and the nail slightly uneven. As neither of them had gone to their weekly manicure since the pandemic arrived she could understand. She lost her gel nails months ago, having them removed during the brief time when her nail salon tried reopening. In a fit of caution unlike her usual self, she didn’t get new ones put on, instead telling her nail technician that she wanted to let them breath for a little while.
“Hello,” Andi continued. “Fun has been cancelled for a while.”
“I don’t think so,” Kelsey said. “I think we are both in need of a manicure and as we both know it is more fun with someone else there.”
“Normally I’d say I would kill for a manicure,” Andi said. “But honestly, I don’t want to risk dying for one.”
Kelsey rolled her eyes. Honestly, Andi could just be so…so sometimes. She just didn’t have the words. “Yeah, hello?”
This time Kelsey tapped the camera lens. “So we each get our things together and doo a zoom manicure. We see who can actually create the best set up and who ends up coming out with the best nails at the end. It could be fun and a challenge,” Kelsey continued.
She grew more excited as the idea grew into a full formed idea, blossoming from the vague intent. “You know how many nail salons Angie has been through. And each time she leaves one she doesn’t like she always claims that she could do better. So now is her chance to prove it.”
Andi smiled. “Well it would be fun to see her try.” She shook her head. “I don’t even have any nail stuff here anymore since I go to the salon so much.”
“Well, you haven’t been to the salon lately so you can spend that savings on ordering a few things to use, can’t you?” Kelsey fought the urge to roll her eyes. “How hard could it be?” She continued. “We figure out what we want to order and how long it would take to get here and then we schedule the video nail party for after everything arrives.” In her head Kelsey saw an entire nail studio taking shape in her guest bathroom. It would be fun to set up, fun to anticipate and fun to enjoy when it came time for the on-line nail party.
“It will be fun,” she assured Andi who was beginning to see the possibilities and was nodding slowly.
“I think it could be. So who do we want to invite?” As the two began planning the future night of fun, neither realized how that one night would change everything.
