Writing Prompt: They were eager to include Harvey in their membership.

Running a little behind to day because it is a holiday. Happy MLK Day everybody. Now for those of you getting started today instead of taking the day off, lets get the timers ready. And off we go.

Late or not, I personally like this one. Not sure if the group is good or evil yet, but it could be fun to find out.

Monday, January 18th: They were eager to include Harvey in their membership.

They were eager to include Harvey in their membership.  Looking around the room, Harvey instantly understood why.  They were a small group, but from the framed photos on the wall and the number od seats scattered around the room it was clear their membership had once been much larger.

After the initial greeting, Harvey was told to look around and make himself comfortable.  It was clear this was some sort of membership drive as everyone had on a welcoming smile and every member brought at least two potential members.

Harvey wasn’t entirely certain what the membership actually did.  Gerald was light on the details. He assumed it was some sort of civic organization and that they worked to raise funds for either community projects or causes.

He knew they weren’t political as Gerald eschewed anything that smacked of politics regardless of which side of the aisle it came from.  He firmly believed no politician should be trusted and left his political views there.  Knowing this had peeked Harvey’s interest in exactly what sort of club he would join.

Left on his own, Harvey steered away from the small gathering around the refreshments table and moved to the wall of photos.  Here there were gatherings of members passed.  There were family picnics with people dressed in clothing from the 1900s.  There were what looked to be some sort of car race in the 1930s. Each time there were photos of the group having fun together.  They looked like happy photos of members and their family’s having fun together in different social settings and different eras.

But something was off about the photos.  Harvey was halfway down the wall of photos when he realized the reason that they were off.  No matter what the situation, no matter what the era, the faces were the same.

‘Descendants, He brain tried to rationalize.  He shook off the thought immediately.  It wasn’t that the faces in the photos were similar, they were the same. He wondered if they were costumes, but then wondered at the age apparent on the photos themselves.  Surely Gerald and his friends wouldn’t dress up and then age the photos of themselves in period dress just to make the club seem like it had a long history.

‘Would they?’ He thought.  It seemed strange regardless.  Harvey wanted to go back and look at the photos he had already looked at to double check, but he felt eyes watching him as he studied the photos.

He didn’t know if the photos were a joke or something serious, but he felt a shiver run down his spine and decided that perhaps it would be best not to draw attention to his noticing of the details.  He turned away from the wall and found that many people were drifting from the refreshments to the chairs placed in the center of the room.  It was set up as though it was a lecture although there was no lectern present.

Harvey smiled and saw Gerald held a seat for him, he began walking over to join him and take the seat when one of the older members stepped in front of him.  Harvey recognized him as the driver holding the trophy after the 1930s car race.  With the exception of the modern clothing, he looked identical to the photo on the wall.  He was smiling, but there was a hard, wary edge to his eyes that put Harvey on his guard.
