Morning all. It is bright and sunny today. Whatever storm we had passed in the night and the air no longer feels like it is waiting for something. Which is quite nice actually. What rain we did get also cleared the air a bit of the floating allergens, so clear breathing for one and all! At least for a few hours anyway. I love starting my morning with out allergy medicine. I also like starting with a writing prompt. So its a double win for me. Let’s get started on that prompt.
I kind of like the sudden departure and I find Frank actually interesting. He seems like a character I could work with. I just have to figure out why he left.
Friday, June 4th: The note he left provided almost no clue as to the events leading to his departure.
The note he left provided almost no clue as to the events leading to his departure. Looking around the room however, it was clear that the departure might be a permanent one.
“The note says ‘see you soon’,” Cecilia read.
Kevin nodded, his eyes still scanning the office. “It does,” he agreed. Personally he thought Frank signed that out of habit more than assurance. At first glance it appeared that very few things were missing, however as the office came furnished, many of the items enclosed weren’t Frank’s to take. In fact the previous tenant left many books and knickknacks behind. Frank always intended to get ris of them bit somehow never did, fitting his own things between those left behind by the office’s previous occupant.
He had been in the office so long now, that it seemed as those things belonged here as much as he did. But Kevin remembered how the office looked when Frank arrived. At this point, he was one of the few who did. The items that predated Frank were all still in their proper places. Everything Frank added appeared to be missing.
“Well,” Cecilia said. “Since he only took a few things, I’m sure he won’t stay gone forever.”
Clearly feeling settled on the matter despite the lack of explanation in the note, she dropped Frank’s note onto the surface of his desk. “I’d better go tell the others so we can adjust the schedule while he’s gone.” Cecelia turned and then looked back at Kevin. “I know he is your friend, but you will talk to him about this? He has left us in a bit of a spot with all the schedule shuffling. Many people will be unhappy.”
Sure,” Frank said. “I’ll talk to him as soon as he returns.”
Celia smiled, patted him on the shoulder and strolled out, her heels clicking across the wooden floorboards. Kevin studied the empty spaces. It was easy to promise having a stern conversation with Frank over this matter when he was certain Frank would not be returning.
Kevin moved forward and picked the letter up off the desk. He had only a moment to scan it before Cecilia arrived and demanded to know why Frank was not in the meeting. Clients were huffy, despite the fact that Frank’s work arrived without him. The meeting went well, but Cecilia had to soothe the clients and was feeling a bit huffy herself.
Even though she complained about shuffling schedules, Kevin knew in her heart, she was rather glad Frank was gone. His work was dazzlingly brilliant, but he was often scattered about everyday protocol and sometimes didn’t think before he spoke.
In truth Cecilia had not been all that upset by Frank sending his work along without himself to the meeting. If she had enough warning not to be taken by surprise and the client hadn’t been offended, then she would have been perfectly content with the arrangement.
‘And as Frank might have actually said something in the meeting to offend the client, it was kind of a draw.’ Frank never meant to be offensive, at least Kevin didn’t think he did. He would grow passionate with his explanation of the project and something would slip out.
Kevin shook the thought away and now that he was once again alone, began to read the note over again, paying attention to the details he only skimmed prior.
