Well another week down and five more prompts completed and added to the file. How was your week? I think I managed about two that i might want to look into as further stories to develop. The others just served to shake awake my brain.
I know I’ve mentioned this numerous times but I love the multiple uses of the writing prompts. First they are a way to shake story ideas loose. I generally have nothing in mind when i look at a writing prompt so there are no preconceived directions. I just take the sentence and go. Often I end up in unexpected places.
Then there is the switching up of my brain. No matter what I am thinking of before I sit down to write for fifteen minutes, it all sort of fades away and my brain shifts into writing mode. Sometimes it is quicker than others, and some mornings I only switch modes towards the end, but by the time the fifteen minutes are up, my brain has quieted and focused.
It also gets me in the habit of writing. Since I know I have to do the writing prompt it doesn’t matter if I am not in the mood to write. I just have to sit down for fifteen minutes regardless. Sometimes I’ve gotten the best writing on the days where I really didn’t want to write at all. It creates a discipline and keeps me writing regardless of mood.
I’m sure those of you following along have your own reasons. So let’s look at the lot of prompts lined up for next week, shall we?
Monday, July 19th: It is a slippery slope.
Tuesday, July 20th: An enormous glass case ran the length of the store.
Wednesday, July 21st: A crash shook the entire house.
Thursday, July 22nd: “Does it really matter that much?”
Friday, July 23rd: She armed herself with a length of pipe.
Don’t they look fun? Now that they are listed, i am going to do my best to forget that they are there so that I can come at them fresh as they appear each day. I hope you’ll join me. As always you are welcome to use the prompts in any way you choose. Write along with me, shake up the order, pluck one out and make it your solo prompt. It is your call. Regardless, i will see you back here bright and early Monday morning. Have a great weekend.
