Upcoming Prompts for January 10th-14th, 2022

Well the first week of 2022 is down. How did it go for you? For me it went pretty well. There are a couple of the prompts that may yield story lines later but today’s prompt I really liked. The Wednesday write in sparked a story that I’m sure will at least be a short story And later today the first chapter from The Ties that Bind will be posted in the subscriber section. All in all pretty good.

If you are just tuning in, the fifteen minute writing prompts posted each morning are designed to get your brain flowing into story mode, no matter how you felt about writing before you sat down. The time is set for fifteen minutes and the plan is to not stop writing until the timer dings. This way you aren’t tempted to look at the words coming out of your brain and start to edit. This is just writing mode. Editing mode comes later. Sometimes the words that come out yield characters, settings, plot lines or subplots to something you are already working on. Sometimes it can actually help you figure out something you are writing. I’ve actually used the sentence starters to help defeat writer’s block.

and of course sometimes they are like mental throat clearing just getting a jumble of words propelled out of your mind before you actually sit down to write. In all their forms, I find them useful, if only creating the habit of sitting down to write no matter if I feel like writing or not. So shall we see what next week’s prompts look like?

Monday, January 10th: He used the straw to suck up the final remnants of his milkshake.

Tuesday, January 11th: They were all assembled.

Wednesday, January 12th: The hunt was just beginning.

Thursday, January13th: It knocked him right out of his shoes.

Friday, January, 14th: It was the first year the apple tree blossomed.

Oh, don’t those look interesting? But for now I am going to forget they are there so i can come to them fresh on the mornings they arrive. They never seem to work out well for me if I think about them before i actually start writing them. So shaking the memory etch-a-sketch and starting fresh on Monday. For Subscribers, Chapter 1 will go live later today and for everyone else, I’ll see you next week.
