Sometimes a rose is just a rose, other times it can have a host of hidden meanings. Think of Sherlock Holmes where a scratch on the boot leather allows him to deduce that Watson recently went walking on muddy ground but that he had a careless housemaid. Even if you aren’t writing a mystery, items can be used to covey meaning to both the characters and the reader. Today’s exercise focuses on working the hidden meanings of the objects into your scenes
