Writing Prompt: It was located a few miles outside of town.

Ah sleep. So lovely when it arrives. Last night it decided to visit. Which is good because today is a very busy one. So Shall we jump in with both well rested feet? Excellent. Set those timers and let’s be off then.

I’ll have to sit down and figure out what Harry planned with Kevin, but I really like this story’s potential. It has some fun elements to play with.

Friday, September 23rd: It was located a few miles outside of town.

It was located a few miles outside of town.  Harry thought it a fairly safe meeting place.  He wasn’t worried about Kevin’s friends or anything he might have planned.  He was more worried about someone spotting him meeting with Kevin.  If that was reported in, then he would be in a great deal of trouble.

Harry left early.  He drove in the opposite direction, towards a club he owned.  It was typical of his behavior, even if it was a little early.  It was the end of the month and everyone knew he would arrive say a quick greeting and then head to the back office with orders not to be disturbed.  He would then take care of all the paperwork required.

Harry spent a long night the night before making sure all of the books were in order.  His plan was to arrive as usual head back to his office and slip out of the back door.  He could then take one of the business vehicles.  They were less prominent than his own and with tinted windows, there was less of a chance that he would be seen. He still planned to skirt the edges of town.  If all went well he should make it to the meet with Kevin and get back before anyone noticed he was gone.

As he pulled into the parking lot, harry could see that his plan was not going to work.

At this time of day, the parking lot should be mostly empty.  There should have been a row of vehicles, mostly staff owned, parked towards the back of the lot in a small section set aside for them but otherwise the place should look almost deserted until dark when they turned on the lights and customers began arriving.

Harry pulled into the lot and saw the faded asphalt painted with strobing lights from official vehicles.  He counted three cop cars and an ambulance.  The ambulance was parked with its lights on, but there didn’t seem to be a great rush.

‘Someone’s dead,’ Harry thought.  He saw no other explanation for the ambulance. He drove around the bulk of the commotion and parked with the other staff vehicles along the edge and out of the way.  As he parked someone must have been made aware of who he was because as he left his vehicle, the tape was lifted and someone official looking began walking towards him

The detective was long limbed and slim.  There were fine bones under the skin but there was a great deal of muscle to back it up.  The detective moved mike a predator and Harry was reminded of documentaries he watched featuring jungle cats.  This man had that same muscled grace.  Harry blinked trying to think detective, but he kept coming up[ with the term predator and had a hard time shaking the feeling.

“Mr. Reeves?” the detective asked as he drew closer.

Harry fought the urge to run.  It was an unusual sensation and one he hadn’t felt since he was a child.  Harry squared his shoulders fighting down the strange impulse.

“I am,” he said.  “Something going on?”

The detective smiled, a small twitch of the lips momentarily elevating one corner of his mouth.  The humor didn’t come close to touching his eyes.  “You could say that something went on.”

“Do you know a Kevin Harrison?”

“Kevin Harrison?” the name was like being stabbed with an icicle in his belly.  He fought to hide his reaction.  No one knew of his connection. They had never met in person and all calls were made through burner phones.

“Can’t say as I do,” Harry replied.  “Why?  He causing trouble?”

“He’s dead.  In your parking lot.”
