Writing Prompt: The next time I see him, we will discuss this.

Morning all, ready to dive in? Good let’s get this morning’s writing prompt going. Ready, Set, write!

Okay this is definitely a continuation of Tuesday’s prompt. There is clearly a missing piece, but still. I think I might have to spend some time with this story.

Thursday, March 9th: The next time I see him, we will discuss this.

“The next time I see him we will discuss this,” he said loftily.  Anna stared after him and knew that the matter would never be brought up again.  She knew that he now considered it closed.

‘Just like the extra work,’ She thought as she trudged back to her desk.  No matter how many times she said she couldn’t take any more extra work, somehow they kept piling more on.  She heard a giggle from one of the cubicles and saw two of her coworkers gossiping with each other.  They were too far away to have overheard so she knew the giggle had nothing to do with her.

She recognized Tamara and tried not to frown.  A good chunk of the extra work now piled on Anna’s desk came from her.  The fact that she was currently sleeping with their supervisor hadn’t escaped her notice either.  Anna didn’t know her supervisor’s wife and didn’t think of herself as the morality police.  The fact that they were sleeping together caused her more trouble though.  Much of what she was doing was done because they needed time to sneak away.

‘There are also things other people just don’t want to do,’ Anna shook her head and went back to the cubicle.  How many times this week had she heard that she was lucky to have a job?  That no one was hiring anywhere?  Always behind the comment was the threat that she could soon be fired.

She had always liked this job, at least the part of the job she was supposed to be doing.  So the thought of leaving only occasionally flickered through her mind.  Now it was flickering more often.  The problem was that she knew any place she applied would end up calling here for a reference.  She knew he supervisor would give her a bad one just so she couldn’t be hired anywhere else.  It was the obstacle she had to figure a way around.

‘Not that he thinks of himself as an obstacle. Anna reached her own space and sank into the chair at her desk.  As she did the phone rang.

‘What now?’ She thought, even as she put on her smile for the phone and reached for it.  She was always told that people could hear her smile and so she always smiled before answering.  Today her smile felt more tired than perky. It had been a long week.

“Hello, Heveran, Incorporated This is Anna speaking how may I help you today?”

“Good afternoon Anna,” a voice said.  “I don’t know if you remember me, I’m Marcy Anders, we met last week, when I had car trouble?”

“Oh yes, I remember,” Anna said.  She met Marcy in the parking lot.  She knew the woman worked on one of the floors and like her stayed late.  She had no clue why but when Marcty finally left the office, she was struggling to get her car started.  Anna helped her with some jumper cables and they were both able to get home. “I hope your car is doing well.”

“It is, I needed a new battery. I really appreciate your help.  I was wondering, I know you are busy but I have a few questions about the Michaelson account.  Would you mind coming up to my office to discuss it?”

“Sure,” Anna said.  She mentally rearranged her schedule in her head.  She was already staying late again tonight, what was an extra twenty minutes?

Marcy told her where the office was and Anna picked up the files.  She walked out of the cubicle.
