Upcoming Prompts for the Week of June 12th-16th, 2023

And so another week has entered the books. I managed one or two story lines that I will need to find good central characters for and I found one good character who I like, but doesn’t actually fit any of the story lines I currently have. He will wait in the wings while I find his story, but I like having him there.

It is an interesting byproduct of the morning writing prompts. On occasion a full fledged story will come out of them. Most of the time though I get bits and pieces that I can use for other stories. Sometimes little things that will work their way into the piece I am currently writing will bubble up. Almost like my brain needs a way to give the little thought more space.

Mostly though, the writing prompts are here to adjust my mindset. No matter what I feel like when i sit down, by the time the timer dings signaling the end of the writing time for the prompt, my brain has shifted into writing mode.

Which is always a good thing. So let’s see what will be shifting our mindsets next week then.

Monday, June 12th: I will need you to work late tonight.

Tuesday, June 13th: Give that to me this instant.

Wednesday, June 14th: I am off to bed.

Thursday, June 15th: He felt a rumbling in his guts.

Friday, June 16th: She had never been alone like this.

I like that a lot of those sentences can be taken as direct and a bit confrontational conversational bits. I often find I get good characters when I start off with confrontation. I think I learn more about them when they are forced to react to confrontation. But that is for next week. For now we will let the sentences idle away Friday and then the weekend. Have a great day everyone.
