Writing Prompt: The day was just beginning.

Morning all, late start today. Feeling draggy and have a tickle in my throat. Really hopping that clears up instead of becoming a thing. Also hoping it is just allergies, which it very well could be For now, I am staying away from people and hoping it is just allergies. Fingers crossed. Now to think about other things, lets jump into the writing prompt. Timers at the ready and off we go.

I kind of like this one. I half suspect that someone is going to report her as missing at some point but that can come later. For now, I really like this as a start.

Thursday, August 17th: The day was just beginning.

The day was just beginning.  She rubbed her eyes and settled into the chair on the back porch, her coffee’s fragrant steam tickling her nose and telling her it was time to start the day.  It had been a long time since she stayed up all night and into the morning.  She felt tired but somehow satisfied.

It was a good night’s work.

As she sipped her coffee she looked out as the world began to wake up.  She saw the early dew glistening on the grass.  The first of the sun would burn it off, but for now it looked cool and refreshed.  As the sun slid across the yard she imagined she could almost hear the dew his as the sun touched the blades.  She wondered briefly if the grass that had yet to be touched trembled in shade, fearful of the coming heat or if it welcomed it.

She shook her head.  Long nights always caused such thoughts to dance in her mind.  She became a less practical person when she went without sleep.  She smiled softly to herself.  No one would believe that.  Day in and day out she was the practical one.  She was the one who made sure the bills were paid and that everyone had what they needed to get what they needed done.

They would call her having whimsical thoughts to fantastical to be believed.

But things were changing. The youngest of their children was now out of the house, through college and launched into lives of their own and Rob decided he too was done with her and this house.  There were discussions with all of them, but as Rob had the money and connections, they sided with him.

At least that was how it felt, but they had always been more his kids than hers and she couldn’t honestly say she was surprised.

She sipped her coffee.  Rob was out of the house and she began making plans. Rob left as soon as the decision was made, taking with him what he wanted and leaving her behind to deal with the rest.  She asked the others if they needed anything from the house and they claimed a few childhood treasures.  Now, all of the paperwork was settled.

Everyone had what they wanted, and she made her plans for herself.  This night was the last of them.  Today they would be set into motion.  The last of her things were gone and out.  She spent the night cleaning every little corner of the house, removing all of the dust and debris from the house.  In a short while she would go to the real estate office, sign the papers that turned the house over to someone else and leave with a large amount of cash in her bank account.

There was a settlement of course.  She used it to buy a small property out of state.  After she left the real estate office she would go to a hotel, spend the night catching up on sleep and then she would start her drive.  Later the pod where all of the belongings she hadn’t put in the car would be shipped out to her.  For now  it was just her and her small travel bag in the trunk of her car.  She watched the sun rise for the last time from this porch and when the time was right, she took her travel mug out to the car.
