The Fifteen Minute Novel 2023 Part 2: Day 11

And so the story continues fifteen minutes at a time…

Day 11: As they watched the wind died down slowly and the rain fell in a more natural fashion.

As they watched the wind died down slowly and the rain fell in a more natural fashion. It stopped being blown sideways.  “Well that’s a plus,” she said.  “It might mean that my little umbrella stands a chance.”

“Really?” Christopher asked.

“The heavy rain might be a bit much, but it wasn’t going to do anything against sideway rain,” Anna told him.  “I don’t think any of the umbrella here would unless they were a full body sized one that stretched almost down to the ground.  It would have to be see through though so no one tripped as they walked.”

Christopher nodded.  “This is true.”  He looked at the rain but didn’t look happy when someone at one of the other tables commented about the rain starting to slack off.”

Anna wasn’t sure she trusted him, despite enjoying the conversational banter.  Perhaps he was just running into her too close to her seeing Marcus and perhaps his slip with the name realty was a decision to call all skeletons Jeffrey, but she wondered.  Anna was on the run for too long not to trust her suspicions.

‘The pardon would have had to be in effect for at least twenty years for me to start ignoring my inner suspicions.’

The rain outside was indeed slacking off and she saw a small muscle in Christopher’s jaw twitch. ‘Yeah, not happy about it ending.’

“I may actually get those errands done yet,” anna said.  She knew that even with the delay she wasn’t going to go directly home.

“And tomorrow back to the archives?” He asked.

“That’s the plan,” she said.  “I don’t suppose you will still be doing your research?”

“I will actually,” He said.  “Although only in the afternoon.  Other duties have claimed my morning I am afraid.  “I don’t know what time you normally finish up but I should be done by five if you’d perhaps like to join me in a drink.  There is a small bar off campus, The Willow.  It tends to be more faculty than student and is a bit quieter.”

Anna nodded.  “As long as nothing goes crazy in the night I think that would be lovely,” Anna replied.  She smiled.  A thought occurred to her and Anna pulled her bag close.  “Can I get your number, just in case something does come up?  I don’t expect it to, but it’s like the umbrella.  If I have the number to call if something goes wrong then odds are nothing will.”

“Understandable,” he replied.  She flipped to the back page of her notebook and pulled out a pencil.

“Ms. Travers doesn’t allow pens.” She reminded him as she handed it over.

“Ah yes, the pen. Only slightly more disturbing than fingerprint powder,” Christopher said.

“Not really
