Writing Prompt: The moon rode high in the sky.

Morning all. it is always strange to write in a different place then normal. But I’m sure it will shake out different thoughts. So lets get to it. Fifteen minutes on the timer please.

Interesting. I’m thinking that they are going to find the mother’s who ran off more than anything else. Haven’t figured that out yet thought. Either way, the dog will be fine.

Monday, October 9th: The moon rode high in the sky.

The moon rose high in the sky.  She knew it wasn’t a full moon exactly but Emily probably would have called it such if someone else hadn’t called it a Gibbon.  She wasn’t sure what a gammon was or what a gibbon moon was.  The moon was bright and she was grateful.

“He can’t have gotten far,” one of the others said. Emily noticed they were farther across the field than she expected.  All of them were somewhat spread out.  Jeremy’s dog, or rather his step-mother’s prize winning dog had gotten loose.  Emily had no actual idea what sort of dog it was.  She was just told it won awards and just finished shooting some sort of pet themed commercial.  While Emily didn’t mind the thought of being associated with someone famous she hadn’t expected her claim to fame being a friend of the family whose dog featured in commercials.

‘Then again we aren’t that close,’ Emily thought.  She had known Jermey since they were in kindergarten and their families were friends.  Her mother and his mother were close.  And then his mother ran off with a ski instructor she met while on a solo vacation and her mother ran off with one of the other lawyers at her father’s law firm.  She and Jeremy hadn’t had much in common before and were drifting apart.  She was fairly certain he invited her to his parties as a habit more than because he wanted her there.  She was also sure she came for the same reason.

‘And now we are searching a field for an award winning, commercial shooting dog,’ Emily thought.  For a moment she had an image of a dog working a video camera.  She could hear her English teacher telling her to reword the sentence to avoid confusion.  She shook the thought away.  It was Friday and more importantly it was the last Friday of the school year.  Class was done and while tomorrow was graduation school was technically finished.  ‘Which means this is the last party I have to go to,’ Emily thought.  ‘I may have to spend it looking for a dog but I am not rethinking my sentences.

“Regenald,” she called, She thought it was an odd name for a dog and she again wondered at the breed.  ‘I would have at least shortened it to Reggie.’  She said so earlier, when told what name she would be calling out and was told it had been shortened.  Reginald was part of a grand sentence of a name used in show arenas.  Emily took the Reginald, forgot the rest and joined the search.

‘I know we are spread out but this seems like a bit much.’  The others were mere outlines in the moonlight and seemed a far distance away.  That’s when her foot connected with something in the long grass.  She looked down. The scent hit her before her mind processed the sight. Then even as she identified it, Emily screamed.
