The Fifteen Minute Novel 2023 Part 2: Day 22

And so Part 2 of the 2023 fifteen minute novel experiment continues, It isn’t part two of the first story, totally different story actually, just part two of the experiment. And this is what I came up with today…

Day 22: There were hidden exits she was certain they wouldn’t know to cover.

There were hidden exits she was certain they wouldn’t know to cover. She could leave the city and still not lose her home.  The funds for her rent were taken automatically and she could let that run without the land lord realizing she wasn’t there.  She would have to activate the look away spell so that no one would realize she was not coming and going everyday.  It would ensure that no one decided to break in and either squat or make off with what she left behind.  There was already an active spell running, she would just have to bump it up slightly so her neighbors wouldn’t notice her absence.

‘And it would still be well below what searchers would notice.’

As Anna ate her dinner she planned.  There was the possibility someone would look for her at the archives and go on alert when she didn’t appear as planned.  It would be their first indication that she might have bolted.

‘So I pack what I am taking tonight, activate the spell first thing and leave, just a little early for the archives tomorrow morning, instead making for one of the hidden exits.’

It was a plan and she felt something in her calm with the establishment of a plan.  As she calmed she realized since seeing the string change color that morning she had been on high alert, feeling trapped and ready to run.

‘It is still running, but not like before.’  There were times she ran and then doubled back.  This was the first time she planned to run and then return to live.  ‘Progress I suppose.’

Anna finished her dinner and washed everything thoroughly.  She might be able to keep people from noticing she was gone, but she didn’t want to leave anything to mold in her absence.  Thinking of mold she opened her fridge.  Her dinner was the last portion of the meal she cooked last and tomorrow she would have to do more shopping.  There were a few items that she picked up while running her errands today that could go into her next meal.  However through chance or her subconscious, the items she picked up could all go in her pack and sustain her while she was gone.

‘I guess I was thinking of leaving then and just didn’t fully realize it.’  Her fridge contained a bowl of fruit and a couple of eggs.  ‘The eggs will be breakfast and the fruit will travel,’ she decided.

Anna closed the fridge.  There was just her bag to check.  She kept it packed to run at all times, but this time, she would need to adjust for the trip to the lost archives.
