And the story continues… And yes I will be going back during revisions and add to her thoughts on planning to go to the lost city earlier on. But as we know, this is about getting the story out and making notes for editing. A note has been added…
Day 43: Her efforts helped her out numerous times.
Her efforts helped her out numerous times. With her cloaking spell on, she could hide from both man and beast. ‘And the additions let me cast it once and wear it until I remove it instead of casting it multiple times.’
Anna always checked the strength of the spell before falling asleep and again upon waking, but this far, there had been no interruptions to the spell. ‘But there has also been nothing to disrupt it.’
During her trip she had seen nothing larger than a bird. There were small lizards she saw darting amidst the drier soils as she descended the far side of the mountain, but they were small things no bigger than her palm. There were no larger creatures that she had seen. ‘And certainly no people.’
Anna wondered if she would see more as she descended into the drier region closer to the city, she suspected not as the shielding around the lost city would have pulsed unpleasantly and sent creatures of all sorts fleeing. Anna yawned and reminded herself to add a protection spell so that she would not be affected by the barrier before she got moving in the morning. The spell would keep the barrier from overwhelming her and sending her backing away from the area.
‘I can wait until I reach the actual barrier to enact the spell to let me slip through. But the protection I’ll need earlier rather than later.’ The spell to slip through the barrier had been a hard one to find, mostly because no one was supposed to slip through the barrier. She wasn’t a hundred percent certain it would work, at least not the first time. She had to cobble the spell together from several different sources and then she played around with it, trying to see if she could get through similarly shielded things. She tried first on shielded buildings in the city, and then she found the spell that was used to seal off the Lost city. She used it to protect a terrarium and worked until she was able to get inside it and add and remove the small plants she placed inside.
It took a while but she found the right combination of pieces. The terrarium had been an odd experiment. When the spell enacted she was able to see the effects of it within the space as the terrarium was clear glass. The plants shriveled to nothing if they were in the terrarium when the spell was enacted. She wanted to know as she wanted to see the effects on living things. When she tested the interior of the terrarium she found that the spell killed all living things inside it when enacted. It killed everything down to the last microbe.
Anna thought that might have been designed due to the plaque that was rampaging through the city at the time. No one wanted to risk it spreading. Anna designed a breathing shield so she wouldn’t accidentally inhale any germs while in the city and in fact had a full body protection to slip under her shields to prevent any absorption of germs through her skin or eyes as well. After seeing the plants die, she became worried and continued her tests.
