The Fifteen Minute Novel 2023 Part 2: Day 65

And so our story continues…

Day 65: “I have now completed them and am ready to return to the capitol.”

“I have now completed them and am ready to return to the capitol.” Anna thought it best to make it seem like returning was her decision all along and to not mention that she had been spying on them and knew she was now incapable of buying groceries without being followed.  It was a stronger position even if it wasn’t all that strong.

“I see,” Christopher said.  He poured himself a cup of tea.  He then thought to offer one to Anna.  She lifted a brow at his lack of proper etiquette and declined the cup.

“Marcus insisted that it was imperative I return now that I have been pardoned.  I am uncertain what the rush is, but I did my best to speedily wrap up my affairs.  I am uncertain if travel plans were made or if I should make them myself.”

“Travel,” Christopher repeated.  “Yes, we would be delighted to assist with travel back to the capitol,” he told her.  “In fact it can be arranged immediately, unless you have something further you need?”

“No, as I said, I have wrapped up all of my affairs.  I can leave now if travel is available.  If I need to wait, I can do that as well. I can return at a later time or date should you need time to arrange things, or I can do so on my own.”

“No,” Christopher said.  He fairly jumped out of his seat, his tea sloshing into the saucer.  He hastily set the cup and saucer down.  “That won’t be necessary.  We can leave momentarily.  I just need to arrange a few things.  If you will just excuse me for a moment I will do so now and we can be on our way.”

Anna inclined her head to indicate she would wait.  He was already half out of his seat and soon left the room, eager to arrange things.  Anna guessed that now he had her here he wasn’t going to let her out of his sight for long.  Anna felt the buzz of magic.

‘Communication spell,’ she identified after a moment of though.  All communications spells had the punch of magic followed be a slight buzz of conversations too far distant to make out.  ‘Which at least means Marcus will stop his search.’  Anna thought.  ‘If Christopher is calling Marcus.’

She hoped he was as the sooner he stopped searching the fewer people he could contact to aid his search.  ‘Funny he didn’t remember he introduced himself as something other than Christopher when we met.’  Anna thought about it.  She only knew he was Christopher from spying on him and Marcus.  ‘Perhaps the butler didn’t tell him I used his real name.’

Anna decided it might be better not to address him directly until he did give her his name.  She didn’t want questions as to why she knew it.  She did wonder how he thought she found his address but the thought was a thin one.  She suspected that Christopher was the sort of man who thought others were always thinking of him and paying attention to him.  She doubted scrying would have occurred to him especially as the traditional components for scrying spells were quite expensive and the shops providing them kept excellent records of purchases.

‘And they were probably being monitored,’ Anna thought.  The sound of the spell ended.
