Writing Prompt: They had to work as a team.

I had a dream where a necromancer commanded dead sea creatures from ages past to rise from the deep and take back the oceans. They were led by the ancient cephalopods. You know the ones with the giant eight meter cones on their heads. I think some how the clean ocean initiatives blended with the new Life on Earth Series with Morgan Freeman and then just took a strange turn in the blender of my subconscious. It has no bearing on anything, I just thought I’d share. To the writing prompt!

I think this could be fun for characters. Surprisingly no eco-warrior necromancers or prehistoric sea creatures angry about sea trash.

Tuesday, January 23rd: They had to work as a team.

They had to work as a team.  It was the only way to get the project done.  Andrea knew that, all of them knew that.  Even Jill knew that, yet there she was, hands on her hips and a scowl on her face.  She looked at them.

“I don’t see why we have to go at all,” she told them.

There was a heavy sigh.  “Because that is where the map leads,” Luke told her.  Jill blinked in surprise.  She was not accustomed to people questioning her, men especially.  She expected that if there was a protest it would come from Andrea.  As Andrea had no stake in the game and was just along for the ride, she was willing to see how the scenario played out.

Jill looked to Luke.  Her hands slipped from her hips and her scowl melted into an expression of dazed puzzlement.  Her large blue eyes widened.  “But why?” She asked. Luke started to soften, his own irritation fading and Andrea leaned back watching.

“It’s so far,” Jill said pressing her advantage.  It was a step too far. Lukes frown returned.

“It’s part of the game.  Either play or stay here while we go on.” Luke lifted the map and pointed out the path they needed to follow.  “We’ll be looking for the split oak where we ill take a left,” he told the group before walking in the direction the map indicated.

The rest of them stood and flowed, after all, he had their map.  Jill looked stunned.  She opened and closed her mouth a few times as though words were stolen from her.  Then she clamped her mouth shut and followed.  For the moment she was silent.  Andrea wondered how long that would last.  She had known Jill most of her life and knew she never stayed quiet for long.  She had to have her voice heard.  She had to be the one telling people how things would happen, to see her decisions followed.

Jill considered herself a leader and her will paramount to any event.

‘She is also not wearing good shoes for walking,’ Andrea thought.  She suspected the pain of a blister would get Jill vocal again despite her surprise at being thwarted.  ‘Although seriously what did she expect?’

Today was a type of treasure hunt.  Each team got a map and had to pick up different clues along the way to lead them to the treasure.  Part of the treasure was a large barbeque feast.  If there was mre to it then additional bragging rights, Andra didn’t know.  She did know that if they were the winners it counted as extra credit for the class.  While she had acted all of her exams and was sure she would do well on the final, Andrea knew Luke and some of the others desperately needed the extra credit points.

‘So does Jill,’ Andrea thought.  Which is why Jill showed up in the first place.  She suspected that the map would be laid out on the table and they would follow the path with their fingers and mark out their findings on paper rather than walk the path.  It was the only explanation Andrea could come up with for the shoes.
