Writing Prompt: The library was covered with dust.

We have a busy day today. So much on tp so without further ado we are just going to jump into it. Timers set for fifteen and lets see what comes out of the brain.

I like this. It has so much to play with. The strangely designed house which may or may not have a reason for the strangeness, the cleaning and moving thorough usually untouched rooms possibly finding new things and or rooms. The sudden television crew stirring up the past. So much fun. I am going to be thinking about this the rest of the day.

Thursday, March 21st: The library was covered with dust.

The library was covered with dust.  Lucas frowned and checked his clip board.  “I’m sure I detailed someone to clean in here,” he muttered to himself.  He looked down the list, his fingers tracing the length of room names and those detailed to make sure they were spotless.

The library wasn’t on the list.

He huffed. ‘Just what I need,’ he thought.  He knew the staff was doing their best but given the scale of the property and the limited time they had to get it ready, everyone was stretched thin.

“I’ll check with Marriane and if things are running smoothly, I guess I’ll be the one to clean the library,” Lucas huffed but there was no real annoyance.  It should have been assigned and it wasn’t, which was more than likely his fault.  There was no one else to do it and therefore he would have to roll up his sleeves and get dirty.  There was no other way to have everything ready in time.  “Best check now.”  He pulled his cell phone from his pocket and pressed the button for his second in command.  He knew that she was heading to the main ball room and would soon be seeing to the floor waxing of the vast expanse.

“Hello?” she said picking up the phone.

“Marriane, is everything under control?”

“For the time being,” she said.  “Nathan brough in reinforcements so the gardens should be ready.”

“Excellent,” Lucas said with some relief.  The gardens were visible throughout the approach to the house and would give the first impression.  Given their timeline he wasn’t sure if they would be ready. “I just found we didn’t assign anyone to the library so I am going to get started in here.  If anyone happens to finish a task early send them my way.”

“Will do,” Marriane said.  “I didn’t know this place even had a library, but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.”

Knowing that Marianne had her own tasks to do and that she would come find him if she needed him, they ended the call and Lucas ducked out of the library to gather his cleaning supplies from the stash in the hall. In truth he hadn’t know there was a library in the building until today either.

“But then I didn’t know that in addition to the billiards room we also had a private games room solely for chess as well as a separate smoking room.”

Given the time period the house was built, he should have suspected some of the rooms, but the original owner had his own thoughts regarding design and the money to corral architects and builders to create whatever took his fancy. The building had many odd nooks and rooms that were unexpected.  As most of the staff kept to a small portion of the vast and sprawling building, most of the house was closed off.  It saved on the heating bill but it made every venture into the far recesses of the building an adventure.

“Never a dull moment,” he thought as he placed his supplies on one of the reading people.  “Although why they decided a film crew had to come in this weekend is beyond me.”
