The Fifteen Minute Novel is an attempt to take a single prompt and use the last sentence written each day as a start for the next day. This year I had several prompts circling around a similar story, so I have combined them. However, the story starts the same way each day, with the last line from the day before and a timer set for fifteen minutes. The hope is to end up with a complete, if very rough draft by the end of the year. Some stories are better than others, but I always learn a whole lot about my own writing when I do this so for me it is not only a nice way to work out a story, but it is a tool for helping my writing get better. And so, we continue this story for 2024 with…
Day 157: As they discussed Janine looking things over when Sophie was done, she had been expecting the call to come, just not when.
As they discussed Janine looking things over when Sophie was done, she had been expecting the call to come, just not when. “I thought I’d get to see the fashion show on Sunday,” Janine said. “Especially after all the drama.”
“I’m hoping all the drama is done,” Sophie said. “Everyone involved in the drama was fired and I think Kristen may have some legal issues after last night.”
“What happened last night?” Janine asked. Sophie ran down the post work screwdriver in the tire incident as she wheeled the clothing rack to the center of the room.
“Wait, she just confessed while the others were listening and she didn’t know?” Janine asked.
“Basically.”
Janine laughed and shook her head. “Well good riddance to bad rubbish and my gran would say. So on with the fashion show.”
Sophie felt nerves dancing in her belly as she started to display each of the items she created. ‘I don’t know why I am so nervous,’ Sophie thought. ‘Even when Janine doesn’t like something, she is nice about it.’ Sophie liked that Janine was always honest, but she was also never mean even when something wasn’t to her taste.
Sophie began to relax as Janine looked over the garments. It helped that she seemed pleased by them.
“Soph these are amazing,” Janine said. They go together well and are a nice wearable collection for fall.”
“That was what I was going for,” Sophie said.
“I would love to see some of these pieces in different colors, Janine said. “For variety.” She lifted one of the blouses Sophie created. “If you could make this in several colors with the same details, lines and the same theme of the rest of the collection it could broaden it out. In fact I think the company that bought the sleep sets might be interested in the collection if we could broaden it out. “You might have to make different sizes as well as the same item in different shade. Which is more or less what you do with the sleep sets.”
“You think these would sell?” Sophie asked. She felt a flush of pride. Creating the collection was something she wanted to do to see if she could. The fact that Janine thought it might be commercially viable was another level.
“I think they would. Thy could get better prices than I can. What do you say, about taking photographs of the garments and seeing if they are interested before thinking of expansion? I will always take the expansion on my site if they don’t want it. But no harm in seeing if they want the exclusive to the Sophie Danial’s Fall Collection.”
“I think that would be amazing.”
“I’ll go get my camera,” Janine said. “No time like the present. Why don’t we pose them on the dressmaker’s dummy for now. You set that up and I will be right back.
Janine went to get her camera and Sophie wheeled her dress form into the living room and put the first of the dresses on it. When Janine returned, she brought lights on stands as well as her camera.
