Morning all. I had strange dreams where a double decker bus kept stopping in front of my house as though it was a stop on a tour. They weren’t looking at my house, but at the neighbors across the street. So I wasn’t famous, just annoyed that they were blocking my driveway. So I woke up somehow annoyed at my neighbor. It was strange. But regardless, it is time to jump into the morning writing prompt. Are you ready? Fabulous. Timers set and off we go.
Huh. Something creepy is about to jump our computer tech. Not sure what yet, but something.
Wednesday, September 25th: The cut bled sluggishly.
The cut bled sluggishly. It was unlikely I would bleed to death but looking around, I wasn’t certain other bad things wouldn’t happen. The lab was destroyed and for a moment I had super hero and super villain scenarios dance through my head. Would I become hulk like or would I end up like spiderman. As I opened the first aide kit and took out the disinfectant wipes and band aids I suspected neither scenario was likely.
Still it made me wonder which side I’d come out on the hero or the villain. Sure both the Hulk and Spiderman both came out on the hero side, but many comic book folks involved in lab accidents ended u on the side of villainy. After bandaging my hand I picked my way across the room over the shattered remains of various experiments. Slipping was more of a hazard than supernatural abilities.
“I don’t think I have either hero or villain in me,’ I decided as I reached the computer terminal. I suspected that should I end up with supernatural abilities I would be a rather apathetic supernatural. I couldn’t see it as my place to save the world from itself nor could I see myself driven to commit dire acts of villainy.
‘I think you need a much harsher back story,’ I thought a I looked to the CPU of the computer. The monitor was completely destroyed but everyone hoped the hard drive would still contain useful information. No one quite knew what Dr. Allbright was working on. He was in one of the private labs. He registered everything officially but after the explosion it was found that none of his paperwork matched anything. It was a cover. No ne knew what he was actually dealing with in his lab.
Ass Dr. Albright was now lying in a refrigerated drawer in the morgue waiting for his next of kin to arrive, it was hoped that the hard drive would help. A radiation scan revealed no radiation and the infectious diseases scan revealed nothing of the sort was present, which is why I was allowed to fetch the hard drive. The clean up crew needed to know what they were dealing with before they could be sent in. They didn’t want to risk using the wrong compound and making things worse.
I looked around at the ruined space and thought that it would be difficult to make any of this worse. The explosion destroyed most of the lab and only the fact that it was an isolated building and a single story one at that, made retrieving anything feasible. It also kept the damage confined to a single space. For me, good work boots and a hard hart were deemed sufficient enough. After all I wasn’t spraying chemicals on anything.
I managed to remove the hard drive and it looked as thought it was in tact. I heard movement and looked up, but I couldn’t place the sound. I decided that a hasty exit was a good idea. There was no record of any animals used for testing, and even though there wasn’t much of any record I knew Albright didn’t care for animal testing. ‘Probably the building shifting.’ Something structural seemed more likely than a creature. I picked up the hard drive and moved quickly back towards the door.
