Morning all and happy Monday. Let’s jump into the new week with a new prompt. Timers at the ready and brains set on stun. Let’s go.
I’ll have to think of the set up, but you have to love jewelry that won’t take no for an answer.
Monday, October 14th: The ring fit her perfectly.
The ring fit her perfectly. Liza smiled nervously feeling like a very uncertain Cinderella as the others huffed around her. She hadn’t even wanted to try it on in the first place.
“Look, rings can be resized,” she told the room. She slipped the ring off her finger and put it back in the box. She stepped back. The gems in the ring caught the light and seemed to glow against the velvet.
“Yeah,” she heard Stella say. “Why can’t we resize it? It’s obvious the ring was meant for me.” She tossed her blonde curls over her shoulder. They cascaded perfectly and caught the sun in a glint of gold.
Liza nodded and stepped back another step. Stella, Missy, Rachel and Eva all pressed forwards, all clamoring to have the ring resized to fir them. Liza glanced towards the door. Just a few more steps and she would be there. Then she could slip out and let her cousins fight oer who got the ring and everything that went along with it.
Liza eased back the few necessary steps and found herself in the doorway. She looked around, no one was paying attention to her. They were all pressing forward making the executor take a few steps back. He closed the ring box and picked it up. He clutched the ring box close as though worried someone would snatch it from him. Liza felt a little bit bad for him but ass he was over a foot taller than any of the women crowding him and had at last a hundred pounds on them, she was certain he could hold his own.
Liza eased her way out of the door and stepped to the side. Once she was out of the line of sight she moved swiftly down the corridor. He was informed she had to come as they would not go over the paperwork until everyone was present. So she came.
‘But there is no reason I can’t leave now,’ she thought ass she quick-walked down the hall. It was an effort not to break into a run. She knew they would hound the executor and when he refused to budge they would come after her. They would try to hound her into giving her whatever it was she was given that she wanted.
She didn’t want any of it and had made that clear, but she also didn’t want to be ordered to give anything to them. She reached the first floor and dipped into her room. Her bag was already packed. It was a simple overnight bag and when she woke this morning she made certain all of her things were in it so she could leave quickly when the time came. She grabbed her bag and was back out of the door in less than five seconds. Down the hall and down one more flight of stairs and it was a quick walk to the front door. She took her keys out of her pocket as she stepped out of the front door and pressed the button unlocking it while still on the move. She opened her car door and tossed her bag into the passenger’s seat. She closed the door and started the engine.
With luck she would be gone well before anyone came looking. Liza fastened her seatbelt and drove down the winding path to the gats, quickly losing sight of the house behind the trees. She sighed with relief when she was through the gates and then felt a slight warmth on her right hand. She looked down and saw the ring was back on her finger.
