Writing Prompt: All of the items appeared to be in place.

Morning all. I had a strange night. I kept falling in and out of the same dream all night. It was like I would wake up and the dream would pause and wait for me to go back to sleep and then pick up where I left off. It was quite odd. But I am awake now, so lets start the day with the morning prompt. Timers set and off we go.

I like this. I may have to sit down and jot a few notes.

Wednesday, March 5th: All of the items appeared to be in place.

All of the items appeared to be in place.  Steve looked them over.  He could see the broken window but he was certain any thief would have taken the jewelry, and other small portable items laid out on the table.  He shook his head.  Nothing appeared to be moved.

‘But it could have been.’  He slowly walked in front of the table.  A few hours earlier his purchase arrived.  He picked up several items at auction.  Most of the items were furniture pieces.  They were run down and in some cases broken.  The items were lined up outside his workshop, each awaiting their turn at refinishing and repair. With one of the long tables he purchased, the chairs that went with it were split up into two lots.  None were actually with the table, despite the fact that the design of the chairs mirrored the table.  The chairs were split into two lots and miscellaneous items were added to each lot.

Steve bought both for the chairs and figured he would sort through the miscellaneous items when they arrived. He half suspected most of them would be trash.  Instead he found several jewelry boxes and assorted small boxes with various trinkets in them.

Most of the jewelry was costume.  A few of the older costume pieces might be worth something but a lot of it was simply cheep jewelry worth nothing.  There were a few actually costly pieces.  The problem was there was a lot of it.  He had given the boxes of jewelry and miscellaneous to Gina to untangle and lay out on the table in the back room while he saw to the furniture.  She spent the better part of the day untwisting chains and pairing up earrings.  She laid out each item, cheap, good costume or expensive in lines.  Across the table.  She tried to place them in categories for him. She then made rows of each of the small miscellaneous items.  They included odd chess pieces and decorative cigarette lighters.  There were unique buttons and strange little things he couldn’t quite name the use of.

All were likewise arrayed.  Steve looked over the arrangement and complemented his assistant.  He then called Greg to arrange for him to look the items over and see which ones were worth having a full appraisal done.

‘I think Gina photographed them all,’ Steve thought as he walked around the table.  She was getting the feel for the new camera.  While they would use pictured of the items they planned to put on the website, she took photos of each more for practice with the new equipment than anything else.

‘We can compare if it comes down to it,’ Steve thought.  He also thought that if someone came here intent on stealing one thing from the arrayed items then this was a lot more premeditated than he thought.  After all, the shipment arrived only today and while he mentioned the furniture, he forgot entirely about the other items until they started unpacking. ‘So I didn’t tell anyone.’
