Writing Prompt: They were soaked from the splash.

Morning all. Busy morning today so no delays. Just the timer set for fifteen minutes. See you on the other side.

Not sure where this is going but I wouldn’t mind playing with the characters a bit.

Tuesday, April 29th: They were soaked from the splash.

They were soaked from the splash.  The ride had been exhilarating, the anticipation of the slow climb up, the exhilaration of the drop down.  There was a moment of magnificent glory in the splash down as well.  He knew others thought he was amusing in his enjoyment of such things, but they had agreed to go with him.  Now however, they were climbing out of the rides boat that had conveyed them through the adventure.

They were soaked and dripping.  Luckily the sun was hot so they were able to dry the bulk of their clothes off relatively quickly.  Sean found parts of his clothes weren’t drying as fast and were in fact chafing.  He had a blister coming out on his foot where his shoe absorbed more water than could easily be evaporated and he didn’t want to contemplate some of the chafing of his undergarments.

He looked to Harry who he knew was as uncomfortable as he was with the after effects.  Harry smiled. “And this is why they have drinks with alcohol in them here.”

Sean blinked.  “They do?” he looked around at all of the children running around.  Some had frantic adults following.  Then he looked at other calmer, slowly sauntering adults.  Most of them seemed to have some drink or food item in their hands.  True most of the drinks were colored in shades not usually found in nature, but they were drinks and could conceivably contain alcohol.

Sean wasn’t a big drinker but he figured a little distraction from his own discomfort wouldn’t go amiss.  ‘Focus on anything else would be welcome. And how strong could the drinks be in a theme park?’

He followed Harry into a cafe area more than willing to follow his lead.  They emerged after a long wait in line each holding a food item in one hand and a drink in the other.  Sean looked at his food item.  It was blue.  He hadn’t expected blue.  True the meat part of it was the traditional brown, but somehow that was lost under the variety of blue sauces that were ladled on top of it.  Even the flatbread wrapped around the meat and it’s blue sauces, was a periwinkle shade.  By contrast the drink he held was a shade of red so deep that his brain kept wanting to use terms like lurid when looking at it.

“If you close your eyes, I’m sure it won’t taste blue,” Harry said.  Sean looked over to see harry eyeing his own blue food wrap with a slightly concerned look.

They angled their course towards the seating area.  The rest of their group dispersed to other areas.  Sean sat down., put his drink on the table and lifted the wrap to his mouth.  He closed his eyes as he took a bit.  It didn’t taste blue.  If anything it tasted red.

Whatever was in the blue sauces was quite spicy.  Sean swallowed his bite, opened his eyes and reached for his red drink.  It was cool and refreshing going down his throat.  ‘Tasting more blue than red,’ Sean though.  In his mind blue was always cold and red hot.  He was certain it was a childhood hold over.  His family owned a plumbing business and the pipes were coded.  He smiled as the colors were reversed here.
