Monday, June 9th: The Five Word Challenge

Morning everyone are you ready for the Monday Morning writing exercise? As always we are starting the week off with the Five Word Challenge. This is designed not only to get you to use words you may not normally reach for when you are writing, but to actually think about those words and their various meanings. I am very guilty of reaching for the same words repeatedly and then taking them out in editing. But I also find that with some words, I use the same meaning of the word often when it can have several meanings. So with that in mind, the morning exercise is simple. Write something that contains all five of the words for today in it. It can be prose, poetry or something else entirely. Whatever it is, use all five or today’s words. As always I will list the actual definitions of these words below. The definitions may spark a thought, or you could decide to make up your own definition for them, completely altering the meaning. It’s your choice. And now…

Today’s Words: Rampant, Versatile, Splendid, Mauve, Base

Rampant: adjective 1.(especially of something unwelcome or unpleasantflourishing or spreading unchecked. 2. Heraldry (of an animal) represented standing on one hind foot with its forefeet in the air (typically in profile, facing the dexter (left) side, with right hind foot and tail raised, unless otherwise specified).

Versatile: adjective 1.able to adapt or be adapted to many different functions or activities. 2. archaic changeableinconstant.

Splendid: adjective magnificent; very impressive. informal excellent; very good.

Mauve: adjective of a pale purple color. noun 1.a pale purple color.2.historicala pale purple aniline dye prepared by William H. Perkin in 1856. It was the first synthetic dyestuff.

Base: noun 1.the lowest part or edge of something, especially the part on which it rests or is supported. 2. a conceptual structure or entity on which something draws or depends. verb 1.have as the foundation for (something); use as a point from which (something) can develop. 2. situate as the center of operations.
