Good morning everyone are you ready for today’s event? I know I say this with every event, but I do love events as a way to show a different side of things. This one I especially like as it has the potential to put people in a place where they might normally go. And getting a character out of their comfort zone can often be so revealing. And so…
Today’s Event: Strawberry Picking
It is something I remember from my child hood. My Mom and her friends would pile into a car with a bunch of kids and we would drive out to a farm where for a certain price you could pick and fill your own containers. Then we would haul the lot home and the house would smell of strawberries for a while as Mom made a giant vat of strawberry jam. We ate a lot of fresh berries but the jam scent was intense. As this, blackberry picking with my grandmother were as close to the world of farming as my childhood got, they were memorable annual events.
Whether your character routinely goes into the countryside or this is a completely alien landscape for them, it is a one time of year sort of event. So have a think and see if maybe, this can help you showing something you might not normally be able to show in your story. Whether a clue for your sleuth or getting someone out of their comfort zone, Happy writing.
