Writing Prompt: Jason gulped.

Morning everyone and happy Friday the thirteenth. Hopefully it will be serial killer free for all of us. For now, lets let the coffee brew and start in on the morning prompt. Set the timers for fifteen minutes if you are joining in.

I was almost certain that a serial killer would pop up since I had them in my brain already. I suppose there is always time for it later though.

Friday, June 13th: Jason gulped.

Jason gulped.  The icy liquid slid down his through leaving a trail so cold it burned.  He felt the slushie as it made it’s way down and was willing to swear he felt it land in his stomach with a hard thump.  An instant later he winced and squinched his eyes shut as brain freeze hit him.  He knew better than to gulp something like this, especially when it was so hot.  The greater the temperature difference between the outside world and his beverage the greater the likelihood of a brain freeze style headache.

As the temps were in triple digits in the shade, and a beverage made of mostly ice was significantly colder he knew he had it coming.  He was just so thirsty.  He un squinched his eyes and let his head throb for a bit.  He tried to sip slowly.  The smaller sipos meant the headache didn’t go away but it was constant with no sharp immediate pains.

As he drank he wondered if the fact that he had lost so much moisture from his body contributed to the brain freeze or if it was just a temperature and speed sort of thing.  He didn’t know but suspected Jared would.

‘I’ll ask him tonight,’ Jason said remembering they were all supposed to gather for the family dinner.  Their father had an announcement.  Jason knew Jared wouldn’t miss it.  Jason flirted with the idea of missing it, of claiming he got too caught up.  The problem was he was certain the others would suspect he would do something like that.  He was fairly certain that if he wasn’t there ten minutes before the given time slated for his arrival then someone would be sent to bring him in.

He sighed and continued sipping his slurpie.  He knew he should have gotten water but the blue raspberry called to him.  He shrugged.  As much as he didn’t want to go and see what this announcement was, he didn’t want the others in his space.

He worked hard to separate himself from their craziness and always hated when they tried expeanding into his somewhat sane territory.

‘Or at least the territory that keeps me sane,’ he thought.  Not having distance from them nearly drove him out of his mind.

Feeling somewhat refreshed and relieved that the headache was fading, Jason crumpled the paper cup and added it to the burn barrel.  Eventually they would get garbage service out her.  For now, anything that could be burned went into the barrel and waited until the world was soaked from a summer rain storm to be disposed of.  Everything else he hauled to the dump himself.  As the dump was a bit more of a drive than he liked to do often, it meant he was choosing his items more carefully these days.

He shook the thought off as he went back into the house.  All of the exterior repairs were done and it looked more like a reputable house again rather than something the wind could knock over with a quick gust.  The HVAC was installed but at the moment turned off.  All of the windows and doors were open to let in the breeze.  The breeze made the rooms marginally less warm but it also helped dry the paint and the varnish.  All of the walls were fitted with new drywall, and had been then sanded and painted in primer white.

While the white dried, Jason started installing the floors.  The upper floors were not only installed but after paint went over primer he had done stained the boards to let them dry.  Now he had only the main floor to work on.
