Good morning everyone. Welcome to the morning writing exercise. As it is Thursday we are looking at events. As always these can be scheduled events or simply an unusual activity that takes the characters out of their every day environment so that you can show a different side to their character, or learn an essential bit of something that you might not have been able to show to your readers in the course of a normal day.
Today’s Event: A day at the beach
I like this one as it not only provides a location change and an activity, but it does provide ample opportunity to show more skin. Which sounds a bit more salacious than I meant it actually. With more skin on display, scars and birth marks can be seen that every day clothing might cover up. You can also add in phobias of water or the creatures in the water. This can be care free or riddled with anxiety for so many reasons.
And a day at the beach can mean many things to people. For some it is frolicking in the waves, looking for seashells or playing beach volleyball. For others it is a good book under a stout umbrella while they enjoy the sea breeze. There are scents, sounds and even textures that aren’t found elsewhere. Things for people to love, and things for people to complain about. So think about the person or people you are sending to the beach, equip them for the day and send them to the shore. Have fun with it and as always happy writing.
