Good morning everyone it is time for the first of the August description writing exercises. Now as you may remember from our religion posts of July, we are looking for not only a physical description of the object but if possible a significance beyond the actual item. This month we are going to use sport’s paraphernalia as our focus. I am the first to admit that I am not a sport type person. I wasn’t raised with them beyond the requisite gym class and they have never been a real part of my life. I’m sure some of you are nodding and others think it is a sacrilege. Regardless, sports can play a roll in a community and they can provide ample opportunities to study human nature. So we are going to start off with…
Today’s Object: A ball
It can be any kind of ball you want in whatever shape. It can be a sport that exists or something you made up. You can even make the ball the skull of a vanquished enemy should you wish. But think about the sport this all is a part of. Why is the game played. Is it just a friendly game? A team building exercise or is it something more. Perhaps it is a way to settle a difficulty between groups without resorting to all out war. Perhaps it is only played in celebration of a victory or for a religious rite. Give that a good think and then describe the ball and the roll it plays in your sport.
And as always, happy writing.
