Monday, August 25th: The Five Word Challenge

Good morning everyone it is time once again for our exercise class Fitness for the Vocab. That’s right no more flabby sentences for us. So lets feel the burn. (All apologies as there were ca 1980 aerobicize videos watched this weekend and they have the disturbing tendency to lodge in the brain.) Below are listed five words, and below them the official definitions. The point of today’s exercise is to use all of them in a piece of writing. You can use them any way you want, even making up your own definitions if you choose, just use them all. So…

Today’s Words: Scupper, Delight, Swing, Lowered, Tower

Scupper: noun a hole in a ship’s side to carry water overboard from the deck. verb British sink (a ship or its crew) deliberately. informal prevent from working or succeedingthwart.

Delight: verb please (someone) greatly. noun great pleasure. a cause or source of great pleasure.

Swing: verb 1.move or cause to move back and forth or from side to side while suspended or on an axis. move by grasping a support from below and leaping. noun 1.a seat suspended by ropes or chains, on which someone may sit and swing back and forth. 2. an act of swinging. informal

Tower: noun 1.a tall, narrow building, either freestanding or forming part of a building such as a church or castle. a tall structure that houses machinery, operators, etc. verb 1.rise to or reach a great height. (of a bird) soar to a great height, especially (of a falcon) so as to be able to swoop down on the quarry.
