Wednesday, August 27th: Description

Good morning and welcome to the last Sport’s themed description of August. This month we have been using various sports elements to not only work on our descriptions but lead into some world building buy expanding the description of the item into its significance. Sometimes that significance is in the game itself and sometime in the society where the game/sport originated.

For our last one, I suggest leaning into that. So…

Today’s Sporting element: The Goal

It could be a description of the perfect goal scored in the game or even how goals are made in general. It can also be thought of in a more broad sense The goal of the sport in general, the goal of playing this sport in society, or watching this sport or even why this sport exists. And remember while you can go with existing sports, you can also go historical or you can make up your own. Is this sport an entertainment for the masses, a way for politicians to curry favor (such as in ancient Rome). Is it a way to settle a disagreement between feuding noble houses without open bloodshed? Take this as broad as you can whether it is a current sport watched every weekend in season to bring the family together or a made up sport to settle issues without combat try to place it in a larger context in your world. And use it to say something you might not be able to say otherwise. Focus on the goal and make your descriptions useful.
