The Fifteen Minute Novel 2025 Part 2: Day 110

For those just tuning in, this challenge is about taking a story idea from bare bones idea into a fully fledged story by writing consistently every week day for fifteen minutes.  The sentence I end with on one day, is the sentence I start with on the following.  Part one was Bob’s story and has nothing whatsoever to do with the story below. Part Two follows a character named Penelope.  I have a few basic sentences to act as road marks on her journey.  I am loosely calling that an outline. We will see where she ends up by the time the story is done. For now, we start Part two of the 2025 Fifteen Minute Writing Challenge.

Day 110: Penelope nodded, even though it couldn’t be seen through the phone.

Penelope nodded, even though it couldn’t be seen through the phone. She couldn’t do anything about the cameras.  She could see how they were useful and might actually keep her safe, but she didn’t like the thought of them watching her every move.  It made her twitchy.  She didn’t think she was planning anything nefarious in the near future, but didn’t like the thought of being watched as though she might.

‘They aren’t technically watching me,’ she thought.

“Did you manage to talk to Mrs. Merriweather?” Penelope asked.

“It is on my to do list,” Michaelson said.  “I am waiting for a consultation.”

“A consultation to make a phone call?” Penelope asked.

“Well Mrs. Merriweather is from a well respected and well connected family so approaching her requires I find out a few things first.”

“I see,” Penelope said.  She realized she didn’t and thought she might want to start learning more about those she was dealing with as well as looking into her personal abilities research.

“Good,” Michaelson said.  “Then if you are certain the storm isn’t connected to you then I will pick you up at three tomorrow.”

“I’ll be waiting,” Penelope said.

The call ended and Penelope set the phone down.  She took a deep and shaky breath.  “Okay I need to try and avoid emotional outbreaks for a bit,” she told herself.

“Also I need to find a way to look up people to see if they might be on my side as well as look into the abilities and possible research Amelia did.”

While Penelope found she was genuinely interested in Amelia’s research simply because she was enjoying reading the journals, she also thought that as some of the abilities Amelia developed that no one believed were similar to what Penelope was developing. ‘Or might be developing.’

“Which means it is useful and not just curiosity.”

Penelope looked towards the door leading from the living room and into the hall.  Earlier, when she asked a question in the library the books seemed to help her out by showing her what she needed to read.

“I need to learn control so I don’t cause flooding and plant explosions and I need to know who might be friends and who might be an enemy of the family.  Personally, Penelope didn’t think she had any enemies of her own.,

“Well Trinity and Jeanette might fall into that category now.”

Penelope shook her head.  At the moment there was nothing she could do about them and until she learned to channel and control her emotions and the magic they tied to, thinking about family wasn’t the safest course of action.

“So control and enemies.” Penelope took a deep breath and before she could tell herself this was a ridiculous idea, she left the living room and went into the hall.  She turned right and stepped into the library.

“Right,” she said aloud.  She took another deep breath and tried to focus everything she had inside on her two most pressing needs.
