Good morning everyone. Sorry for the bit of a mix up. I hadn’t realized Monday was a holiday and then I hadn’t planned on doing anything about Monday being a holiday and then something came up and I needed to be gone on Monday so things got a little out of shape. But we should be back on schedule for the rest of the week with luck. So timers set and off we go.
A part of me wants to put a curse on the items or at least have them unleash a demonic creature of some sort. Sadly the timer went off before I got there. I think it is just the time of year.
Wednesday, October 15th: It was a sight to behold.
It was a sight to behold. The narrow passageway , the side corridor of the tunnel they knew connected to a chamber which then would lead them to a different set of tunnels appeared on the scan as a more or less empty space. They could tell it wasn’t filled with water and the roof had not collapsed. As the roof collapsed on the tunnel they planned to use to get back to the surface, and their back up exiting tunnel was flooded from too much early spring rain fall, both were very good things to know.
It did however not give the cavern justice.
They exited into a world of brilliance. Their hard lamps sparkled on every surface. The light reflected making the cave light up from just their small lamps so that it was almost the strength of a cloudy day inside.
One of the others went to the side and tapped one of the shining crystals. Sean paid little attention to him as he studies the cave. It was like standing in a diamond. He stepped further into the cave. The floor was sandy instead of stone. ‘Or maybe a thick layer of sand over stone.
“Salt,” Cameron said after inspection.
Sean nodded and amended his thoughts to standing in a diamond to standing in a giant salt crystal. There was a small spray of water to his left. It was a thin, mini waterfall. There were mineral deposits clustered around the landing site, calcifying into a shallow bowl. The water ran down with enough force that as he neared he felt the spray. He licked his lips. Salty.
The overflow from the bowl ran down over the lip in the bowl and disappeared into a hole that led under the cave wall. Thinking of the flooded tunnel they weren’t able to use he checked his bearings.
‘Opposite direction,’ he thought. He walked away looking for the tunnel entrance they hoped to use. As he stepped to the side he was stopped by yet another unexpected sight.
“Lucas,” he called out. “You might want to record this.”
He knew Lucas would have hs camera running and would pay attention to every detail. There were many who would be reviewing the footage. Sean heard the foot steps and pointed. Thee was a shelf of rock about three feet up butild into the wall of the cavern. Ion it had been placed some pottery bowls, an urn and what looked like a few decorative items carved from shell and stone.
“Record but don’t touch. The archaeological teams will want to see everything the way it was placed.”
“Got it,” Lucas replied. He recorded the scene, making sure to add photographic stills to the video capture without touching the items. Sean walked off and found the tunnel he was looking for.
“Found the exit,” he called. He looked back and saw relief on everyone’s faces. “Record and mark for return. Let’s get ourselves back to the surface.”
