Good morning everyone. It is time to stretch those vocab muscles and take this week’s five word challenge. In it we take the five words for the day and use them in a singular piece of writing. What that writing is can be anything you dream up. the point is to look at the words and maybe use them in ways you might not ordinarily use them. I know that I am guilty of overusing certain words and it is nice to simply step away and branch out. While I am sure all these words are familiar to you, I have put the definitions below. Sometimes seeing a definition can spark an idea, especially if the word has multiple definitions. And while these are the official definitions in the on-line dictionary I am using, if you have a different definition for the word, feel free to use that as well. Or make up your own definition, just make sure it is clear in it’s usage. So…
Today’s Words: Harness, Inspire, Dangle, Roll, Smudge
Harness: noun
a set of straps and fittings by which a horse or other draft animal is fastened to a cart, plow, etc. and is controlled by its driver. verb 1.put a harness on (a horse or other draft animal). 2. control and make use of (natural resources), especially to produce energy.
Inspire: verb 1.fill (someone) with the urge or ability to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. 2. breathe in (air); inhale.
Dangle: verb hang or swing loosely. offer (an enticing incentive) to someone.
Roll: verb 1.move or cause to move in a particular direction by turning over and over on an axis. 2. (of a vehicle) move or run on wheels. noun 1.a cylinder formed by winding flexible material around a tube or by turning it over and over on itself without folding.2. a movement in which someone or something turns or is turned over on itself.
Smudge: verb cause (something) to become messily smeared by rubbing it. noun a blurred or smeared mark on the surface of something.
