Writing Prompt: Isn’t it adorable.

Morning all I hope your week is going swimmingly. It is damp here but the sun is expected later today. Which would be nice as I feel like everything is growing mold. It probably isn’t but more than two days cold and damp in a row and I start to feel it. But I can not control the sun, so let’s just jump into the writing prompt and see if I can control the story line. So timers set for fifteen minutes and off we go.

Oh something is going to go badly wrong with Suzie. I can sense it coming. The timer just went off before I could get there.

Tuesday, November 4th: Isn’t it adorable.

“Isn’t it adorable?” Suzie cooed.

Jilly leaned over to get a better look at the bundle in Suzie’s arms.  Sticking out of the blankets was something covered in fur that sleepily blinked two large black eyes up at them.  Occasionally a long gray tongue peeked through what Jilly could sort of see were black lips hidden under the charcoal fur.

She had no idea what the creature was and if it was looking at Suzie adoringly for rescuing it or contemplating eating her as its next meal.  “The fur looks soft,” Killy said, hedging her bets.  She knew Suzie.  Once she decided something was cute, whether it was a puppy, a pair of shoes or a boyfriend, questioning it was not a good idea.

Questioning it made Suzie dig her heels in, determined to prove that her view was the correct one.

“I’m naming him Boopsy,” Suzie declared.

“Naming,” Jilly replied.  Suzie took a step away and despite saying nothing, Jilly was certain that the creature guessed her less than thrilled reaction to it and gave her the stink eye.  At least that’s how she interpreted it.  “Why Boopsy?” She couldn’t help but ask somehow feeling she ought to get on the creature’s good side.

“I like the name,” Suzie said and it suits him.”  She looked at the creature.  “Or her,” she added as though uncertain.  “It’s non gender specific.”

“I suppose it is,” Jilly said.  She looked at her watch.  “I am going to have to hear all about Boopsy when I get back, I am already running late.”

“Oh, aren’t you going to stay?” She looked from Boopsy to Jilly.  “I thought we could…”

“You know if I don’t go Martin will have a conniption fit.” Jilly said.  “You know  he is still steamed about me bailing because I helped you with the thing last month.”

Jilly knew not to give specifics lest Suzie get defensive, declare this wasn’t like the last time and start an argument that would make her even later.

“Oh right,” Suzie said.  “Well hope you finish early, we’ll be here.”

“Back as soon as I can,” she said.

The creature was no longer gazing at her with narrowed eyes but starting to look around with wide eyes.  She felt dismissed.  Which Jilly found acceptable.  She also didn’t point out that she was going to be gone for a full two weeks.  Jilly told Suzie repeatedly.  Once she finished with Martin she was heading out.  She was needed at home.

Suzie rarely listened to anything that didn’t concern her.  Luckily, her portion of the rent for the house they all shared was set up on automatic withdrawal.  Prior to doing that, she had been late because it simply didn’t occur to her that she needed to pay it.  Jilly planned to remind Suzie she would be gone for two weeks but felt hesitant to mention it with the creature listening.

‘I’ll call,’ she thought.  She thought of their other roommates.  As she left she decided she might call them as well, just to let them know about Suzie’s latest obsession. She doubted they would take it well.  The last obsession hadn’t ended well and she knew at least two of the others were reaching the end of their tolerance.  Jilly too was done defending Suzie and suspected they would be looking for a new roommate as soon as the others learned of this.
