Wednesday, November 5th: Description

Good morning everyone and welcome to the first of the November writing exercises. As you know we vary the general topic by month and for the month of November we are going to focused on Journeys. While the goal is description, think about how the description can lead into not only the description of the physical object but your character and their world. We are going to start with a wide open one.

Today’s Topic: The travel pack

It is a brand new back pack from a high end outfitters? It is a well worn and patched one showing more miles than anyone can guess? Is it modern? Is it historical? Is it a fantasy world travel pack? Does it belong to a mercenary, a wizard, an accountant? Picture the pack, describe it and maybe even it’s contents. Think about the relationship the character has with the pack and how others view them because of their pack or what they chose to include. There are many ways to envision the pack. Take a minute to think this through because we will be looking at various members of this character’s gear throughout the month of November. (admittedly you could use a different character each week instead of building one character, but that is your call). So focus and as always, happy writing.
