Good morning everyone. It is time to look at our event for the week. It is sometimes a major holiday and other times it is just a little something that isn’t part of the daily life of a character. The entire point of the event is to pull the characters off of daily standard and to give you a chance to show them in a different light, reveal a clue, explain something about the world, or whatever else you can find. Since November is the month where food in various forms takes up a lot of my head space I decided to start the month off with…
Today’s Event: A Cooking Demonstration
Attending, watching from afar, sponsoring, coordinating or even conducting; there are many roles to fill. Think about how best to use it for your own work and then have fun with it. Even if you don’t use it in the manuscript you are working on, it can be an interesting way for you to gain some insight into your character. Writing a gothic romance and/or horror story? How does your vamp feel looking at a cooking demo? Does it stir up old thoughts of childhood? Do they feel revulsion? Superiority? Are they hoping the people they feed on get the proper nutrition or are they appalled at what the melted gummy bear festooned triple chocolate concoction will do to their victims? (no one said it had to be a healthy cooking demo, after all.) Sure you might not use the scene in your tale of gothic horror but it might let you see your character in a way you hadn’t expected and that can be useful. Even if they aren’t vampiric. So figure out where you can best use this, which character’s head you want to get inside, or use it as a kick off for a new story.
As always, happy writing.
