Good morning everyone and welcome to the morning writing exercise. For Wednesdays we always go with a monthly theme and for December I thought it only fitting that we use the topic of gatherings for our descriptions. I always find it interesting to see how the same person reacts in different settings. One person can be fun and talkative if there is only one person with them but shy and quiet in a large group. The opposite can also happen. Someone who is fine being generally gregarious in a large group of relative strangers, tightens up and shuts down in more intimate gatherings. For this month’s exercise, I am going to be creating a character and putting that one person through several different gathering types that way I can not only describe the group and the setting but how that one character changes with the location and scale of the group. You are welcome to do the same, adding character development o your descriptions or you can just stick with the description of the group. Pick your POV and any details you would like but let the reader really see the scene.
Today’s Gathering: A Small Friend Group
How small is small depends on you. Set the scene, give the reason for the gathering. Is it someone’s first time hosting or a well established ritual for this group? Is it in someone’s home or out in the wider world? Think of your details and see where it takes you. As always, happy writing.
