Morning all. I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Mine was filled with a long to do list that I managed to tick a bunch of things off of. Not entirely restful but I felt very productive. But Monday has arrived and it is time to jump in with the morning prompt. So set your timers to fifteen minutes and lets get going.
I am now going to wonder about both the letter and what the errands of James entailed.
Monday, December 8th: Where were you yesterday?
“Where were you yesterday?” Alister asked.
“I had some errands to run,” James said. He hoped no one would ask for details. “Why? Did you miss me?” He fluttered his eyelashes and Alister snorted.
“You wish. You did miss an epic blow out though.”
“Really?” James asked. He found himself relaxing. If Alister didn’t ask where he was now then he was pretty sure he was home free as far as questions went. Alister was the nosiest of the lot. He loved gossip and everyone knew if he talked to Alister first then he would have any gossip there was to tell. Id Alister had nothing to say about Jame’s errands, then there wasn’t anything noteworthy in them.
“Who was it this time?”
“You say that like we always have drama,” Alister replied. He shook his head in disbelief.
“We don’t?” I thought that George’s relationship with Elise blowing up was quite dramatic.”
“Well I suppose that was pretty spectacular,” Alister conceded. “He is still sulking about it actually.”
“I’ll be sure to console him when I see him.”
“Telling him to get over it because she was cheating on him is not consoling,” Alister said.
James shrugged. “Fine, who am I consoling this time then. Did Keith get the boot from Jenny? Or maybe Thomas decided to finally pick one of the, what was it, three girls he is seeing casually?”
Again Alister snorted. “You and I both know Keith and Jenny are never going to split for more than half a second and Thomas is down to two. Aria decided he was a waste of her time last week.”
“Only two now? Pretty slow for him.”
“I’m sure he’ll add more to the list soon enough,” Alister said dryly. James remembered that Alister’s Cousin Katie fell for Thomas hard a year or so ago and even though she recovered, Alister no longer found amusement in Thomas’ long list of admirers.
“So what was the drama?” he asked.
“Duncan.”
James blinked. “Duncan?” he repeated. “As in Duncan, Duncan?” James frowned.
“That’s the one.”
James stared off into space. Out of all of them Duncan was the least likely to cause any drama. He was generally quiet unless he had something to say, than he said it, dropping his comments into the conversation and more often than not walking away while everyone was still processing the fact that he spoke. He kept himself to himself and while James knew he dated periodically it was generally drama free. He both hooked up and broke up far from anyone’s watchful gaze.
“What happened,” he finally asked when he could come up with no drama that Duncan would actually be a part of.
“You can’t even imagine it can you?” Alister said.
“I can’t,” James said honestly.
“Well, it started with a letter.”
“A letter?”
“You know the normal sort that comes through the mail. It was delivered and looked just like any other letter. Duncan opened it in the common room and read it. You could practically see his anger rising with each line.”
