I woke up in the middle of a dream where a vampire was working as a door to door salesman selling bottles of SPF. He was selling them like an old school movie thief sold watched. You know with the trench coat where he opens one side and you see the watches hanging down on the inside. Except that he was selling bottles of SPF 380. Not sure why 380, seemed to be the number the vamp liked. Then the Jehovah’s witnesses arrived. I woke up then but kind of want to know what happened. Not happy with my alarm. Still the day has started. So let’s jump into the morning prompt. Timers set and off we go.
I really like the set up. I think it is something I can work with. Kinda fun. Still thinking about SPF 380 though…
Thursday, January 15th: She ignored the warnings.
She ignored the warnings. After all, the car was always making little noises. It was an older car. Her oldest sister inherited it when their parents got a new car. Then she passed it on to the next in line when she finally managed to buy her own. It was then used and dutifully passed down.
With five older siblings she was the sixth in her family to drive the car. ‘And it wasn’t knew when my parents got it in the first place.’
She knew that there would be no passing it to anyone else. She was the last in line and expected that it would die before she could pass it on.
“Just has to get me to my new place,” she told it. She patted the dash in what she hoped was an affectionate or at least encouraging manner. In the past year most of her savings had gone into keeping the car running. She replaced parts and paid mechanics to fix things just to keep it running.
She just needed it to get her to her new place and then all would be fine.
“You can do it,” she said. She shot a glance to her phone. She had a small mount on the dash that kept it within sight. She had the map pulled up and she glanced at the mileage.
“Just a few more miles and we will be there.”
Alice crossed her fingers and hoped the car would make it the last few miles. She secured a job at a mountain resort and would soon be working in their kitchen. She made it through culinary school thanks to a school program and had been working in various restaurants around her home town in order to gain both experience and money. It helped her land the very junior job at the resort and she hoped it would be just the first step in a very long and hopefully stable career.
She passed the sign for the town, Winterbone. It was placed at the outskirts of the town and she knew iot was only a few miles before she reached the actual town. For now woods stretched to either side of the road in every direction.
She glanced at the map on the phone again, but the phone glitched and faltered. She saw the screen go blank and then a map showing the city of Miami popped into view. As she was no where near Florida, she found that suspicious, but didn’t want to bother with the phone.
“I already passed the town limits sign,” she told herself. “And there is just this one road.”
She left the highway behind a while back as the route took her on a rural route. The phone blinked and She glanced over. Now the map seemed to be showing her that she was approaching London.
“That’s quite a leap.” She wasn’t sure her car would make it the next few miles to the mountain town, she doubted it was capable of jumping the Atlantic. The phone glitched again and this time she was driving through the center of Rome.
She caught a motion in front of the car and slammed on her brakes as three deer leapt across the road in rapid succession. “Focus on the road,” she told herself as her heart raced. “Phone issues later.”
