It still looks so strange to see 2026 up there. Still, the new year has arrived and will hopefully be a little more stable than last year. For now, I had a good writing week. The fifteen minute prompts I mostly do as a way to get my brain to shift into writing mode. It doesn’t matter how I feel about writing before I sit down, once I am finished with the timer, my brain has shifted and I am ready to write. The fact that I often get story lines, plot points, concepts, settings and characters out of it are side benefits of course. But the mental set up is the key factor.
Plus since I make that the key feature it gives me implicit permission to write as badly as I want on the prompts. It is just mental throat clearing and can be horrific if it needs to be so there is no pressure. Which oddly can sometimes give me the best story ideas. So win win all around. Shall we see what prompts we are looking at next week?
Monday, January 19th: MLK HOLIDAY: I made a reservation.
Tuesday, January 20th: They walked away slowly.
Wednesday, January 21st: He was clearly annoyed.
Thursday, January 22nd: You won’t be joining us.
Friday, January 23rd: He checked the dial.
You may notice that I have a holiday marked on Monday. (I know, I went really subtle with the all caps) I will be taking Monday off and not posting, but I put the sentence prompt up for those of you who still want it so everyone still gets five prompts this week. As for me, I am ready to kick off the day and get back into my own writing. So I will leave you and forget the above sentences exist until Tuesday. Have a great three day weekend.
