The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #31

Good morning everyone.  Today’s task is pretty easy.  This week we broke out the emptions for each of our acts and we came up with an emotional arc for any of our characters that needed them.  Today we are going to put all of our acts together in one easy to use document so that we can see everything in one place (if you haven’t already done so) and then we are going to look at our arc and compare it to the three act narrative that we came up with.  Some of you will need to pull up two documents, others have two separate pages in a notebook visible.  By the time you are done, the emotional arc you have should be reflected in the three Acts.

For me this always involves multiple read throughs.  I will read the arc, then read through the three Acts. Then I will set it to the side and do something completely different for an hour or so before coming back and reading through the three acts again.  I will adjust anything that comes to mind and then let it sit over the weekend.

We have a Monday Holiday here so there will be no actual task on Monday.  Instead, I would suggest that after you finish completing your Task #31 today, you ignore the pages and let it sit in the back of your mind until Monday.  Then give it another read through to see if it  works for you.  In the end, you should no longer need the page with your separate emotional arc and be down to just your three act break out with the emotions added. (I would keep the page in the notebook or file for now as that sort of thing is good to check in with on occasion.  We are however funneling all of our tasks down so that eventually we will just have our chapter break out and research notes).

So there we have it.  Task #31: compile the Acts with their emotional breakouts into one document you can easily read through and compare it to your emotional arc to make sure that your character is growing and changing (or not changing as the case may be) as the story progresses in the way you want.

(Since it is mostly compiling, I gave Bob a rest and didn’t add him to the bottom of this Task.

I will see you back here again on Tuesday for our next task.  Have a great weekend.
