Morning all. Hope your week is going well. Currently it is snowing. Which feels strange as last week we had 70 degree temps and by the end of this week we are supposed to be back up to 60. It really is a roulette wheel of weather. But the daily to do list goes on. Lets check off the morning prompt as we get our brains fired up for the day. Timers set for fifteen minutes and lets get going.
Not where I thought this was going but now I have to figure out what is in the box. I know it won’t be pleasant, but I don’t mind a darker tale now and again.
Tuesday, February 24th: The box had a big silver bow on top.
The box had a big silver bow on top. Ivy stared at it while mentally scrolling through her personal list of events, holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. She could come up with nothing that matched the date.
Ivy linked and realized she couldn’t come up with anything resembling a gift giving event for the month. She narrowed her eyes and tried to figure out why it would be here. Unease floated through her at the sight of the box but she wasn’t sure why.
“Well, aren’t you going to open it?” Callie, her roommate asked. Ivy glanced over. Callie was practically bouncing up and down on the couch with excitement. Callie was the sort of person who expected gifts routinely and ripped open the packaging as soon as it arrived.
Ivy knew looking at the unopened box was killing her.
“I’m not sure,” Ivy said. “I want to have a look at the card first.”
Callie sighed heavily and rolled her eyes. “The delivery man just said it was for you so you know it wasn’t a mistake.”
“Yes, but what delivery man? What company was he with?” Ivy asked. Callie shrugged her shoulders.
The box looked like a gift one would find under the tree in a department store. Dark blue paper wrapping and the big silver bow. There was no delivery packaging. No outer box to keep it safe in transit, just the gift box.
“Did you take the outer packaging off?” Ivy asked.
“No, I didn’t touch your gift. Just open it already.”
“I think I am going to call Frank,” Ivy said.
“You think he sent it?” Callie frowned.
“No, I remember him mentioning something about odd packages and I want to double check something.”
Callie sagged on the couch irritated by the delay. Ivy stepped away from the box and called Frank. Frank had been a friend of the family for a long time. He was one of her uncle’s best friends and routinely joined the family for any holiday events. He also worked as a reporter and at the last family dinner mentioned something about strange packages. She only caught part of the conversation a she was at the other end of the table, but she didn’t think it was a good conversation.
Frank picked up on the second ring.
“Frank Wallace,” he said as always answering with his name.
“Hey, Frank it’s Ivy. I just received a strange blue package with a silver bow on it, and I remember you saying something….”
“Don’t touch it,” he said interrupting her. “I am actually at the police station right now I will be there with officers in five minutes tops.”
“Okay,” Ivy said. He hung up.
“What did he say?” Callie said.
“He said don’t touch it and he will be here with the cops in a few minutes.”
Callie’s excitement fizzled. “So it isn’t a present?”
“It might not be a good one.”
Callie stared at the package. “But it is so pretty,” Callie said. She blinked. “Wait you said people are coming over?” She looked down at the outfit she was wearing and decided it wouldn’t do, she raced off to her bedroom to change before anyone arrived. Ivy stared at the package, giving it a healthy distance. While she worried about what was in it, she was even more disturbed that it was delivered to her.
