The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #41

Good morning everyone We have entered the writing phase of the challenge. My schedule involves writing for one hour per weekday on the story I created for this challenge, and each day I will be posting the writing (membership is $2/month if you are interested just click on the post and it will take you to the details of signing up) just remember if you are reading that is it the very rough first draft as I am pasting the sections as I go. Later we will work on the editing portion but for now, the challenge is to get the story down without the internal editor blocking too much.

Despite the Task per day leading us all in to this point where I am starting the writing section, not all of you may be ready to jump in. Some of you may have a bit more research to do or a little world building. Or you could be reading along thinking you might do the challenge later in the year. Everyone has their own pace. So we have a writing challenge posted below. It could go along with the story you are working on or it could be something completely different. Use it how you wish.

Today’s writing Exercise: Pick a character (or invent a character). Think about them as a person, who they are, what sort of things they might do on a daily basis. Now once you have that character in your head, walk over to their fridge, open the door and write about what this character would have in their fridge and why. If refrigerators are not part of the world, go with a pantry, root cellar or chemical supplement array. Use what they consume to explain a facet of this character that might not otherwise come to light.

Happy writing.
