The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #46

Good morning everyone I hope you had a fabulous weekend and are ready to jump back into the writing challenge. This week I have once again scheduled an hour of writing for myself on this story Monday through Friday. Thus far I don’t see any complications, but life can be strange sometimes. And overly fond of curveballs.

And of course we have a writing exercise, and yes still focused on character building (I think I have enough character exercises for March in case you are wondering, then we will switch it up a bit)

Task #46: Writing Challenge: Pick your character, any character you want. It can be one made up for the purpose of this exercise, but picture them. What kind of character are they? Are they a hero? A villain? the comic relief? Some combination of all three? Think about them and what sort of tale you would put them in (if you don’t have one). Got it? Good. Now tell me about their childhood pet. Did they have one? Did they not have one but long for a pet? Gove me details. Why this pet? Is it situational? A sheep dog on a sheep farm? Did they have the same dog every person in the neighborhood had and it was viewed as the necessary accoutrement to living in the neighborhood? Was it startlingly odd? Tell us about the pet, the choices made, the relationship.

Happy Writing.
