Morning all. We’ve reached the middle of the week. With all this rain encouraging me to curl up with a good book somewhere It feels like an accomplishment to be productive. Still as most of the month is more than likely going to be filled with days of drizzle I can’t just clock out until the summer heat comes. Tempting though that may be. So on with the morning prompt. Timers set for fifteen minutes if you are joining in.
I like this one. I am going to have to think about the situation and the interpersonal relationships before writing further but I like the multiple lines tangling.
Wednesday, March 11th: Let me introduce you.
“Let me introduce you,” she said. “He’s always happy to meet a fan.”
Sarah smiled wanly trying to find a way out of the introduction without offending Marcia. She was always so thrilled when celebrities showed up at her events. Not wanting to meet one would be taken as an insult immediately. For now, at least, she needed to stay on Marcia’s good side.
“Oh no,” Sarah said. “That’s fine I don’t want to interrupt.” I gestured towards the group where Max wa clearly engaged in a conversation, laughing and gesturing for emphasis.
“Oh nonsense,” Marcia said. “It will be fine.”
My brain scrambled for another excuse as Marcia took a step in his direction.
“I’d have to fix…” I said. I let the sentence trail off as I lifted a hand. I wasn’t certain whether to use hair or makeup as an excuse.
“Oh,” Marcia said stopping in her tracks. She smiled knowingly as though I just admitted to a major crush. “Well maybe after you’ve had a chance to freshen up in the bathroom. You are a bit shiny so maybe a quick powder of the nose. Come find me later and I’ll introduce you.”
“Thanks,” I said. I looked around and she pointed me in the direction of the bathrooms. It was a general fluttering hand wave towards my right. She was already distracted by someone else and halfway gone into another conversation. I moved off in the direction she indicated and fell off her radar.
The trick was staying off it for the short while I needed to remain at the event. ‘While avoiding Max.’
Thinking a moment alone wouldn’t be a bad thing, I went in search of the restrooms. I needed to think, to breathe. I found what I was looking for, slipped inside and locked the door behind me. I leaned on the sink as I thought.
I had to meet Alex. I had to pass the warning on. That would take only a few seconds. It should have been an easy move. All I had to do was let him know that Wallace was back in town. Then I could leave. I owed Alex that much at least.
‘Now I have to let him know while avoiding both Marcy and Max.’ I shook my head. Who would have thought he would be one of the celebrities she invited to add glamor to an event. It would have been something he would have laughed at back in the day.
‘I’m sure he will be too involved to notice me,’ I decided. ‘I just have to stay out of his direct line of vision.’
As far as pep talks went, it wasn’t my greatest, but sadly, it wasn’t my worst. I checked the mirror to make sure I didn’t have any unfortunate looks going. Satisfied I could blend. I left the bathroom. I just had to find Alex, pass the warning and get out.
From the shadows of the building, I scanned the crowd. I spotted Alex. Thankfully he was near the exit. I plotted my route and made my way towards him.
