Morning all I hope you are doing well. As you know we are in the writing section of our challenge where each of us have our own writing schedule. If today is a writing day for you then that is your task #49. It is mine actually. If it is not a writing day then your Task #49 is rest between bouts of scheduled writing. (or delve into your normal non writing day). Or you could do the below writing exercise. We are still focused on character development so…
Task #49 – Writing Exercise: Choose a character to write about. It could be an individual character study or one that is a part of your current writing. Just picture them, know who they are even f it is in a general sort of way. Once you have settled a character to write about, tell us about their favorite kind of landscape or terrain. Where do they feel the most comfortable. It doesn’t have to be an I love the beach moment, it can be a bit quieter of a realization. For example growing up I could always see mountains. Even if I wasn’t in them, they were a constant on the horizon. Sometimes they were different mountains depending where I was living, but there were always mountains I could see. Then when I was an adult I spent some time living in Iowa. I don’t know if you have ever been there, but there are no mountains. For the first few months I had the constant feeling that something was missing. I finally realized it was the fact that when I looked out towards the horizon there were no mountains in any direction. I never considered myself a mountain person, but the complete lack was jarring and to be honest something I never felt comfortable with. As a personal example. So think about your characters and the terrain they are comfortable in. Sometimes it means thinking about where they are not comfortable. It may be something they don’t realize but still plays a role. So, comfortable terrain and why, that is the exercise.
Happy writing.
