The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge 2026: My Task #51

Today I have an interesting one. It was another writing day for me and to be honest I spent way more than an hour on this project today. But it wasn’t just a regular writing day. As always when I sit down to begin the writing I read over the section that I wrote the last time I wrote. It not only gets me into the character and the story mindset but it lets me do a little correcting of the writing as I go. They are usually minor edits. Making sentences clearer by adjusting word choice and sentence structure, fighting with autocorrect because they didn’t like the word I used and thought they new better and replaced it with a similar sounding word that changed the meaning of the sentence. That sort of thing.

This time I found something that I knew would trip up my plot later if I didn’t fix it now. Long story short I ended up erasing about 4k worth of words located in several different sections of the manuscript. I spent the time rewriting those sections in slightly different ways.. Oddly enough I came out ahead word count wise by the time I was done. I had 16,352 words when I posted my end of the week count on Friday and today I have 17,001. So I came out ahead but somehow landed in the same place by the time I finished.

So I am not posting the section below as I would have to put the entire thing up to show the changes. And that would be a bit much for one post. It will be shown once we go through the editing section of the writing challenge, but since I ended the section I was rewriting in the same place as I left off Friday I am not posting today even though I did my scheduled writing. If that makes sense.

I usually try to silence my inner editor during the first draft but that plot issue really needed to be fixed now before it cause issues later. Sometimes it happens. More of the rough draft posted tomorrow.
