The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task # 56

Morning everyone. I hope you had a fantastic weekend. I spent the weekend mostly in the garden but I did take some time between to make sure my document had the correct perspective. I started it off in first person and very quickly realized I did not like the first person so I switched to third. Which meant going back through and fixing things. Which I did. I also got a lot of garden chores knocked off the list. But here we are on Monday. It is another scheduled writing day for me but we have another March Character exercises.

Task #56 – Writing Exercise: Pick a character and take a moment to figure out who they are in a general sense within your story and maybe even what their role in the story is. Once you have them, write a paragraph or so about the first thing this character notices. Whether it is when they are first introduced to someone or when they walk into a room. What do they first notice and why. Now remember you are the writer. You may know what they notice and why but the character may not even realize it. They may come to realize it or never see it. It could later be something your sleuth picks up on during a mystery. This knowledge about your character could be just for you, or it could be the key to everything. You get to decide that.

Happy Writing.
