The Fifteen Minute Novel 2026: Day 228

I wasn’t quite finished with the story I was telling by the time 2025 ended and so decided to continue it until it reached an ending point. Then I will start a new one. Besides, I kind of wanted to see where Penelope ends up. I will say that I am approaching the end. There will need to be much editing, but as I wasn’t expecting to start Penelope when I did, I didn’t have any sort of outline prepared. So there was a lot of meandering and I think I changed the destination a few times. But We will discuss that in the round up once it is done. For now we continue the story until the end. And so we have…

Day 228: Penelope nodded even though Lenore couldn’t see it.

Penelope nodded even though Lenore couldn’t see it. Penelope wrote down the time Lenore was sending a car and ended the call.  She looked at her phone and decided she didn’t want to talk to anyone for the rest of the day.

She turned the phone off and left it on the kitchen counter.  She returned to the library and continued checking through the large book to look for information about the strange not-dreams.  She read a few entries on memory.  One talked about how to improve memory and another one explained there was a way to share a memory.  She began to despair, but as she had several more entries to check, Penelope kept going.

Finally, she reached an entry that could be helpful.  She leaned forward, squinting at the too small text.

‘While preserving a memory has its uses,’ here the author cited several previous entries in the book, most of which Penelope already read so she skimmed over the numbers. ‘They can also be a helpful teaching tool.  A bloodline can create a memory portal where shared memories regarding the learning of specific skills can be placed so that they are accessible to younger practitioners who do not have ready access to appropriate trainers. If such a memory portal is created a link is generally added to the lake and absorbed with the activation of the lineage magic.’

Penelope paused her reading and did a small dance in the chair.  “I knew I should ask the guardian,” she said.  “Because if it was added to the pool she would know.”

Penelope went back to the book, feeling pleased she was starting to get a handle on things.

‘Generally the memory portal is accessed for the first time by a member of a bloodline when the need is great.  Once they learn the portal is available, they can access the memory portal at will, either in dreams or through controlled meditation exercises.  Thus it becomes a teaching tool for those who may have inherited skills where there is no living teacher available to guide them.’

The book then went on to discuss other teaching methods.  Penelope frowned and looked at her list of entries.  There were only a few more dealing with memory and she decided she would look at them and then look ingo these controlled meditation exercises.  If it was a way to access lessons without having to go to sleep, Penelope thought it would be a good skill to learn.

‘Especially since I have the time,’ Penelope thought even as she began turning pages.

She knew that with her arm healed she could get on with her life, but needing to hide the fact that it was healed for a few weeks was limiting.  She knew that staying close was best.

“I could visit with Mrs. Merriweather about the dress and the tracking thing I found and then just do a deep study dive while I am supposed to be healing.”

No one would be expecting her to be running around and with the tracking device now out of her arm, Penelope was rethinking her activities anyway.
