The 2026 Novel Writing Challenge: Task #58

Morning all. It is another day of writing scheduled on the Novel Writing Challenge. for me at least. Hopefully you are doing well with whatever schedule you are working with. As a note on schedules, I set mine up on a monthly so this weekend I will be sitting down with April and blocking out what time I will have to write. While I have enjoyed the evening writing time, I have several things coming up in the evenings in April so I may have to move it to earlier in the day instead of after dinner. Regardless, I am still going to try to schedule about an hour a day simply because I like the routine of it. I do better with every day scheduling so it can become a part of my daily routine. Whenever I schedule anything for every other day I tend to have a harder time remembering. But that is just me. And this was just a reminder that the end of the month is coming and if you haven’t set up your April schedule, you might want to take some time to look at your calendar. And now on with the writing exercise.

Task #58: Writing Exercise – Still March and still working on character building. So as always we start by thinking of a character, any character. Picture them in your mind. See them as they go about their day. Now once you have them in mind I want you to write about what is in their pocket. It could be a coat pocket, a shirt pocket or trouser pocket. (If the clothing of said character doesn’t include pockets, write about what they always keep about their person). If they refuse to put things into their pockets, write about that. Tell us about the objects and why they are there.

As always, happy writing.
